Most security models in use today are inherently flawed either because they are inherently repudiable or so complex users unwittingly sabotage them in order to make them usable.

Priva Technologies receives FIPS 140-2, Level 3 validation...

Arlington, Va. - February 10, 2005 - Priva Technologies, Inc., a provider of advanced hardware and software-based authentication security platforms, today announced that the ClearedChip™, the authentication microchip of the company's Cleared® Security Platform, has been validated and submitted for Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2, Level 3 certification to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The testing and validation was recently completed by InfoGard, a NIST accredited laboratory. FIPS 140-2 validation allows products to be deployed by federal agencies, including contracted service providers, and other organizations that require stringent security standards to protect sensitive information. As one of the highest possible certification levels, FIPS 140-2 Level 3 has only been achieved by approximately 7% of product modules.

"InfoGard is highly regarded for its detailed analysis and verification methodology. Every product we have submitted to NIST for issuance of a validation certificate has been approved at the level of our recommendation," said Ken Kolstad, director of operations, InfoGard. "The verification process went very smoothly and quickly, which speaks to Priva Technologies' detailed methodology and development."

"FIPS 140-2 validation is a critical stamp of approval that every organization should look for before implementing an authentication solution," said Jeff Minushkin, CEO and founder, Priva Technologies. "Priva designed the Cleared Security Platform from the ground up to deliver Level 3 capabilities, because we understand the serious regulatory and security requirements faced by our customers. Only the Cleared Security Platform offers unparalleled levels of authentication and convenience through a unique, end-to-end platform."

Priva's Cleared Security Platform provides multi-factored authentication with certainty for enterprises and government agencies requiring stringent access control from individuals, systems, and networks. The platform provides a unified and auditable system that eliminates significant barriers to adoption. The platform incorporates the highest levels of intrusion protection available, and consists of the ClearedChip working in conjunction with the ClearedHost™, a secure authentication server. To provide portable and secure authentication for individuals, Priva offers the ClearedKey™, a key fob-sized biometric authentication device incorporating the ClearedChip. With an available open API, and the ability to easily integrate new and legacy applications, the Cleared Security Platform results in lower maintenance, more controllable access and increased long-term return on investment. FIPS 140-2, Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules, is a government standard that validates security claims for products using cryptography through NIST.

FIPS 140-2 is required by federal agencies in the United States, and recognized in Canada, Asia, Europe and Australia. The financial community uses FIPS 140-2 to measure the safety of products handling monetary transactions. Security Level 3 certifies tamper-responsive physical security products to provide identity-based authentication. For more information on FIPS 140-2, visit http://csrc.nist.gov/cryptval.
